Under the Reading Tree recognizes that local knowledge and experience are an invaluable resource. We operate in consultation with local leaders and educators to base responsibility and ownership of each library within the community. The partnerships developed with these local leaders ensure all decisions made are most relevant to each community’s needs. These decisions include library locations, books provided and programs offered. We believe that projects will be most successful when members of the community not only feel they are the beneficiaries but are also responsible for program decisions and maintenance of the library.
Canadian operations are carried out on a volunteer basis through the efforts of the directors and other committed volunteers, and include fundraising, networking and communicating with partners of current and future projects.
