Mpigi

Mpigi Community Library

Our first 'seed' library project is in the community of Mpigi, located two hours drive southwest of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. With a surrounding population of ten thousand people, the town is the economic and political centre of Mpigi district.

Managed by librarians Francis Nakazi and Taddeo Kamoga, a husband-and-wife team, Mpigi Community Library has become a popular evening hang-out for older primary students and secondary students who study at one of the many schools in and near town.

We're providing monthly funding to cover librarian salaries, library space rental and maintenance, as well as an annual grant for book purchases. We've also purchased a bicycle for use by Frank and Taddeo in reaching out to schools in the area.
